The Bach Lab

The JAK/STAT signaling pathway plays vital roles in development, patterning, homeostasis, growth control, and tumor progression. In the Bach lab, we are interested in the molecular and physiological functions of the JAK/STAT pathway. To this end, we use Drosophila melanogaster as a model system because anatomical structures are well-characterized, signal transduction pathways are evolutionarily conserved but of lower complexity, and powerful tools exist to dissect genetic circuits. We use a combination of molecular, genetic, and biochemical approaches to investigate this pathway's function in the context of stem cell dynamics, cell competition, and tumorigenesis.
